# Settlement evidence

> How confirmed cash is distinguished from a quote or a venue match.

# Debt is reduced by settled cash, not by a displayed price

The accounting design distinguishes a decision, a venue match, and the later
confirmation of cash. Debt can be reduced only when settlement evidence
identifies cash that has actually settled and has been applied to the relevant
loan.

## Core properties

* **Unique identity:** a consumed evidence record cannot be counted again.
* **Cumulative recognition:** one match may settle in more than one confirmed
  cash amount.
* **Capacity bound:** recognized settlement cannot exceed the applicable
  matched capacity.
* **Explicit exceptions:** duplicate, conflicting, stale, or unmatched
evidence is rejected or routed for review.

## Why this boundary matters

A quote, fill notification, dashboard value, or execution log can be useful
operational information. None of them is repayment cash by itself. Keeping the
boundary explicit prevents an accounting system from treating anticipated
proceeds as settled funds.
